After a phenomenal response from artists far and wide, the panel of judges has now selected the artists who will be exhibiting their work at the 1st Festival Internacional de Arte Marbella (FIAMAR). Filling the resort with an explosion of colour and talent from 19-21st June, the Festival will showcase the works of some 74 artists, photographers, sculptors, ceramicists and digital artists and several galleries in what promises to be an exciting and crowd-pulling event on the Alameda and Avenida del Mar between the town centre and the beach. The artists’ work will be on show in individual white tents and the festival will come alive with street performers, musicians, bars and hospitality areas.

“The standard of works is humbling,” states artist Pixie Glore, co-founder of the event, along with interior designer Caroline Bowley. ”We have artists with extraordinary talent, and many with impressive careers,” affirms Caroline, who adjudicated the work along with Loni Olfers of Houses of Art Gallery, Marbella and Jose Luís Hernández, Councillor for Tourism in Marbella Town Hall.

The participants are truly international with artists from 19 different countries contributing works, including Russia, Finland, Denmark, France, Argentina, Hungary as well as England and Spain. The festival will represent an immense diversity of styles and media with everything from oils and photography to ceramics. A German participant will be creating an installation at the event based on the fitting theme of the environment and the ocean.

Modelled on the highly prestigious art festivals held in resorts such as Miami and Palm Beach in the USA, the aim of the festival is to promote and support the thriving artistic community in Marbella, and beyond, and stimulate an interest in art collecting among the public. With artists and visitors flooding into the popular holiday resort for the event, hotels, bars, restaurants, tour operators and local businesses will all benefit from the initiative.

With the backing of the Marbella Tourist Board, a series of key sponsors have come forward including FNAC and Coca-Cola. Meanwhile, Houses of Art Gallery are sponsoring a “young artist” prize, with an exhibition offered to the talented young contender. Prizes, donated by prestigious companies, will be awarded to the top three artists.

The bustling Avenida will be covered with awnings to shield the public from Marbella’s heady summer sun, and a children’s activity tent will be set up to encourage the creativity of the younger art lovers.

A VIP inaugural cocktail party will take place on the evening of 18 June for artists, sponsors and dignitaries with hospitality by Terra Sana and an eclectic programme of entertainment. For information on the event and spon!sorship opportunities please contact the festival organizers.
