Give a Frog a Home This Christmas
The perfect Christmas present for a nature lover
Gardenis.co.uk, an online retailer of garden products is selling plastic preformed ponds this Christmas, which are ideal for anyone who loves nature and wants to make their garden wildlife friendly. With the concept of rewilding gaining popularity, adding a preformed pond to a garden is one small way of making a positive difference to nature and the environment on a larger scale.
At Christmas, being in deep midwinter, frogs and toads are in hibernation, but only a few months later they will be out looking for a place to spawn. If a pond is added to your garden by the start of spring, there is a chance you might get new residents. However, even if you leave it for milder weather, it will only be weeks before aquatic insects arrive and possibly frogs, toads or newts, which can then spawn the following year. Another great wildlife benefit of a pond which is often overlooked, is a place for birds to drink and bathe. They can attract birds just as much as a bird table, especially in the summer months, when food is abundant.
The ponds are available in small (85 litres), medium (200 litres) and large (400 litres) and are made from recycled high density polyethylene. They are rigid and robust, and very simple to add to the garden. Just dig a hole, then add some native aquatic pond plants.
