With the concept of rewilding gaining popularity, adding a preformed pond to a garden is one small way of making a positive difference to nature and the environment on a larger scale.

At Christmas, being in deep midwinter, frogs and toads are in hibernation, but only a few months later they will be out looking for a place to spawn. If a pond is added to your garden by the start of spring, there is a chance you might get new residents. However, even if you leave it for milder weather, it will only be weeks before aquatic insects arrive and possibly frogs, toads or newts, which can then spawn the following year.
